Ramsey became the first rookie defense in the history of the Jaguar to be rated as AFC defensive player.

That was fitting, because first selection and the last selection – and most of the selections in between – were very much expectedly on defense.
Jonathan Woodard, a defensive end from the Central Arkansas, on Saturday afternoon became the seventh player selected by the Jaguars in the 2016 NFL Draft. He was the No. 226 selection of the draft, the fifth selection of the seventh round.
Marrone has done so with an air of experience and professionalism, and has accomplished the difficult task of coaching the team his way while making clear that to players and coaches this is still in many ways Bradley’s team.
He also has focused his comments to the media during the two weeks very much on the present – i.e., on winning the final two games – and has declined as much as possible to discuss his thoughts on becoming the permanent head coach.
Marrone said he has not talked to Jaguars Owner Shad Khan or General Manager David Caldwell about the position. He said he did speak with Shad and Tony Khan Monday, but emphasized that it was “not about the position.”
“I will never go back and say, ‘I wish none of this happened,’ because it helped me. How about if I had had a successful two years and I ran into a situation where I’m down this year, where I’m hurt? I feel like in all honesty I wouldn’t know how to react to it and I’d probably be where I was my first year now. Now that I had the opportunity to do what I went through my first and second year … now, it’s like, ‘OK, these next couple of years or anytime it happens you’ll never see me negative, head down or anything like that.’ I’ll always be positive and always come back strong.”

The Jaguars played contending teams tough throughout the season, and when the Jaguars knocked the Tennessee Titans from the postseason this past Saturday with a 38-17 victory at EverBank Field …
Jalen Ramsey has been improving by the week.
That improvement was acknowledged Wednesday, a day Ramsey became the first rookie defensive back in Jaguars history to be named AFC Defensive Player of the Week.
“It was cool,” Ramsey said Wednesday as the Jaguars (3-12) prepared to play the Indianapolis Colts (7-8) in the 2016 regular-season finale at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, Sunday at 1 p.m.
“Like I’ve said all year: to do stuff like that and get rewarded for it is cool, but as long as my teammates and my coaches see what I’m putting on out there, that’s really what matters.”
Ramsey, the No. 5 overall selection in the 2016 NFL Draft, registered four solo tackles and four passes defensed in a 38-17 victory over Tennessee at EverBank Field Saturday. He returned an interception 30 yards for a game-clinching touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
