The Jaguars made their belief in Branden Albert official Thursday

That happened a lot around the NFL – and in Jacksonville, it meant the long-reported trade bringing left tackle Branden Albert to the Jaguars is now a done deal.

Cincinnati took a 21-3 lead with a 21-yard touchdown pass from A.J. McCarron to Alex Erickson before the Jaguars made it 21-11 with 3:07 remaining in the third quarter with a 7-yard run by Joe Banyard followed by a two-point conversion run by Denard Robinson. Backup quarterback Chad Henne passed three yards to Neal Sterling before a two-point conversion pass to Tony Washington made it 21-18 Jaguars early in the fourth quarter.

Linebacker Hayes Pullard’s 62-yard interception return with 7:48 remaining gave the Jaguars their first lead, 26-21.

“The transition from high school into college can be an eye opening experience. You go from being the best on your high school team to having to compete for a spot on your college team,” said Jones. “The best thing you can do is surround yourself with positive and like-minded people who have your best interest in mind to help you get to the next level.”

Jaguars Wide Receiver Tony Washington, an Appalachian State University alumnus, walked the Jacksonville Jaguars jersey students through his own journey from high school football through college and into the pros. He specifically focused on was the importance of education and life after football.

“We had some success as the ones in the first few preseason games, and this is our first chance going against Cincinnati,” Bortles said. “Some things did not go our way – but I think just learn from it and be better.”

Pullard’s touchdown-negating penalty was one of six first-half penalties against Jacksonville for 25 yards. For the game, the Jaguars were penalized 11 times for 65 yards.

Albert, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, joined the Jaguars in a trade with the Miami Dolphins for the Jaguars’ seventh-round selection in the 2018 NFL Draft. The deal that had been reported since mid-February became official Thursday at 4 p.m.

“Brandon is an experienced left tackle,” Jaguars Head Coach Doug Marrone said in a statement. “He will compete for the starting role and has proven over his 120-game career that he has the mental and physical tools to excel in this league.

“The play of the offensive and defensive line will be of significant importance to our organization’s success and the acquisition of Branden Albert is a step in that direction.”

The Jaguars made their belief in Branden Albert official Thursday.

But left tackle Branden Albert, acquired by the Jaguars in a trade last month from the Miami Dolphins, indeed reportedly did not attend the opening of the 2017 offseason program Monday – and indications are he wants the team to address his contract. My interpretation: though the Jaguars obviously would prefer if Albert were here, they likely figured this scenario was possible.

The move to acquire Albert is a major one for an offensive line that improved its pass protection last season, but that has struggled at times in recent seasons in the running game. Albert is considered a good run blocker. The team opted during February not to exercise a four-year option for Kelvin Beachum, who started 15 games at left tackle for the Jaguars last season. Nike Jaguars #97 Roy Miller Black Alternate Men's Stitched NFL Elite Jersey

If there’s an overriding, central theme around the Jaguars this offseason, that may be it. Luke Bowanko knows it, and so does pretty much everyone involved with the offensive line.

Bowanko said not only must it happen, he very much believes it will happen. And that’s something else he has in common with the rest of the offensive line.

“We’re a confident group,” Bowanko said Wednesday afternoon during an appearance on Jaguars.com LIVE with J.P. Shadrick and John Oehser. “It’s not like we’re out here looking over our shoulder trying to figure out, ‘What’s going to happen next?’

“We know we have the ability to do it. We just have to come together as a group. We need to get better, obviously – get stronger as a unit. But working together for a year, that stuff comes along with it.

Skuta, 30, appeared in 26 games over the past two seasons

The seventh tight end on the Jaguars’ roster is second-year veteran Gannon Sinclair.

“I’ve talked to the coaches about my role,” Rivera said. “I can play Y, F … move tight end. I can be put all over the field: wideout, fullback, slot receiver – similar to what I did in Oakland. I can be all over the place catching a lot of balls.”

Dan Skuta, a nine-year veteran linebacker who signed with the Jaguars as an unrestricted free agent in the 2015 offseason, has been released by the team. The Jaguars announced the move Tuesday afternoon.

Skuta, 30, appeared in 26 games over the past two seasons. He started 10 games, including eight in 2015 and two this past season. Nike Jaguars #80 Julius Thomas Gray Men's Stitched NFL Limited Gridiron Gray Jersey

According to a police report, there was an altercation that “turned physical when Skuta pushed victim’s face with an open hand which caused the back of her head to hit a glass window.” That’s what’s out there, as is the Jaguars’ official statement: “The Jaguars are aware of the situation involving linebacker Dan Skuta and are currently gathering more information. The team has been in constant communication with Dan through this process in its entirety. No further comment can be made.” Skuta’s attorney, Mark NeJame, issued a statement Monday saying that “Dan never placed his hands on anyone.” The statement also said, “Dan Skuta was arrested for something that simply did not happen and we ask that there be no rush to judgment as Dan is innocent. Erroneous conclusions should not be jumped to.” I don’t expect any action on this until more is known.

Skuta has appeared in 112 career games in eight NFL seasons, including 33 starts. He registered 55 tackles in two seasons with the Jaguars, and had 1.5 sacks and two passes defensed.

The wholesale Jacksonville Jaguars jerseys have re-signed sixth-year WR Bryan Walters, the club announced today.

Walters, 6-0, 192, has appeared in 42 career games with four starts. Prior to signing with Jacksonville on March 13, 2015, Walters previously spent time with San Diego, Minnesota and Seattle. Walters won a Super Bowl in 2014 with the Seahawks and returned two punts for six yards in the Super Bowl XLIV victory. In 2016, Walters recorded 24 receptions for 231 yards and two TDs while also returning 17 punts for 86 yards. For his career, Walters has totaled 65 receptions for 683 yards and three TDs.

The good news doesn’t involve Allen Hurns, who – as expected – will miss Sunday’s game at Tennessee, but the Jaguars announced 90 minutes before kickoff that reserve wide receiver Bryan Walters will be active.

Walters, who has played a key role as a reserve this season, had been listed as questionable with a back injury. He was a game-time decision for the Titans game, which will be played at Nissan Stadium at 1 p.m.

Walters, 29, played four years at Cornell University (2007-10) and became the first Big Red alumnus to sign an NFL contract since Kevin Boothe in 2006. At the conclusion of his senior year, Walters was named second-team All-Ivy League as a receiver and return specialist. A native of Bothell, Wash., Walters attended Juanita (Wash.) High School and was a three-time all-league selection at wide receiver and defensive back.

This appears to be a position of strength and potential

Marcedes Lewis, the Jaguars’ longest-tenured player who had talked throughout last season about finishing his career in Jacksonville, will get that chance.

Lewis, an 11-year veteran, signed a contract to remain with the team Wednesday night, the Jaguars announced. Lewis had become an unrestricted free agent Wednesday at 4 p.m., the start of the 2016 league year.

Like everyone, Marcedes Lewis, a tight end selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft out of UCLA, only had one chance to make a good Jacksonville Jaguars jersey cheap first impression. Even so, he wouldn’t have needed a second chance anyway.

“We were having the Oklahoma drill, that’s a one-on-one blocking drill where the running back is running behind you,” Lewis said. “After my first Oklahoma drill during training camp, (former running back) Fred Taylor came up to me and said, ‘You keep blocking like that you’re going to be in this league for a long time.’ That never left my mind.”

Taylor wasn’t the only veteran player who was impressed by the rookie. So was tight end Kyle Brady, who was then in his 12th season.

One player to watch in Thursday’s preseason opener: wide receiver Jamal Robinson, an undrafted rookie free agent from Louisiana-Lafayette. Robinson (6-feet-4, 207 pounds) appears to be a long shot to make the roster at a deep, talented position, but he has flashed with memorable plays throughout camp – even before Monday, when his one-handed, 25-yard reception was a highlight.

Nike Jaguars #5 Blake Bortles White Men’s Stitched NFL Elite Jersey

A struggling running game and a rough game for the quarterback make things difficult, too. Add to that the aftereffects of two fourth-quarter player ejections last Sunday and you have a team that’s understandably ready to play. Marcus Rush is strengthening the exercise.

Mostly, the Jaguars want 8:25 Thursday to get here quickly because it’s a chance to put last Sunday’s loss to the Raiders in the rear view. Winning cures all ills in the NFL, and for the Jaguars Thursday winning would have the added bonus of keeping them alive in the AFC South. Nike Jaguars #5 Blake Bortles Black Alternate Youth Stitched NFL Elite Jersey

This appears to be a position of strength and potential, particularly in the starting lineup. Posluszny and Smith both played at a high level last season, and Jack – a second-round selection in the 2016 NFL Draft – is expected to play more extensively this season. One possibility is moving Jack to middle linebacker and Posluszny to strong-side linebacker, something that has been speculated upon without official comment from the team this offseason.

That answer remains to be seen, but the 2017 NFL Draft is considered very deep defensively, particularly at the cornerback position. So, continuing to address the defense – even as early as early in the first round – remains a real possibility.

“Me and Poz, we’ve grown close over the past three years; he’s probably one of the closest guys I have when it comes to being on the field,” Smith said. “It’s going to be tough, but when he accepted it I accepted it.

Dan Skuta, a nine-year veteran linebacker who signed with the Jaguars as an unrestricted free agent in the 2015 offseason, has been released by the team. The Jaguars announced the move Tuesday afternoon.

Lee, a second-round selection in the 2014 NFL Draft

cheap Jacksonville Jaguars jerseys

That wasn’t as true of wide receiver Rashad Greene Sr., though the second-year veteran still may play against Chicago Sunday.

Gipson, the Jaguars’ starting free safety, and Fowler – the team’s second-year Leo defensive end – according to the team’s injury report are expected to play Sunday as the team continues to get healthier following last week’s Week 5 bye.

Rashad Greene, the Jaguars’ punt returner when healthy since the beginning of the 2015 season, was declared inactive by the team an hour and a half before kickoff of the team’s game against the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Field Thursday night.

Hurns, who spent the week in the concussion protocol after hitting his head on the turf in Kansas City last Sunday, was ruled active an hour and a half before kickoff of the Jaguars’ game against the Houston Texans at EverBank Field.

Senior writer John Oehser spent time this week with WR Marqise Lee, discussing three questions as the Jaguars prepared to play the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis Sunday.

Marqise Lee jersey

The Jaguars didn’t want it, either, but Lee and Jaguars Head Coach Gus Bradley both said the hamstring injury that kept the third-year wide receiver out of Jaguars 2016 Training Camp Day 2 practice Friday isn’t considered long-term or serious.

“You never want to sit out, but it’s no big thing,” Lee said early Friday afternoon following a two-and-half-hour practice in 92-degree temperatures that felt like 100 at the practice fields adjacent to EverBank Field.

“That’s the biggest thing – I felt it a little bit as far as a little fatigue. I relayed it a little over to Gus and Jacksonville Jaguars jersey authentic them and they decided to shut me down. We don’t want to rush it. I just have to sit back and do what they want me to do.”

Lee sustained the injury Thursday in the first practice of camp. Bradley said the injury is considered mild hamstring strain.

The group instead will look pretty much as it has looked for the last month of the regular season, which is good news for Marqise Lee and disappointing for Allen Hurns.

Lee and Hurns both were listed as questionable on the team’s final injury report of the 2016 regular season Friday, but Hurns said it’s extremely unlikely he will be able to play through the hamstring injury that has kept him out of the last four games.

It’s really, really good for the Jaguars’ offense – and it may in fact be the best thing to happen to the Jaguars overall this season.

“We know how fast he is and what he can do,” Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles said of Lee this week.

Yes, the Jaguars have known how fast Lee is – and what he can do – since selecting him in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. And indeed, Lee in his first two NFL seasons showed flashes of the player who was the best wide receiver in college football during his sophomore season at the University of Southern California.

Lee, the Jaguars’ third-year wide receiver, had a simple objective entering 2016 organized activities: stay healthy throughout three weeks of OTAs and the ensuing three-day mandatory minicamp. He figured if that happened, a lot of other objectives would take care of themselves. NFL Jacksonville Jaguars #11 Marqise Lee Snapback Adjustable Stitched Player Hat - Black White

It’s also why the Jaguars’ third-year wide receiver didn’t seem at all surprised to have had a really good practice Monday – maybe one of his best practices since joining the Jaguars.

Lee during 2016 Organized Team Activities consistently has focused his public comments on his health and keeping an even keel. But he did allow a smile or two after practice Monday when asked it had been a fun day.

Lee, a second-round selection in the 2014 NFL Draft, has flashed at times in two NFL seasons, but he has also dealt with injuries – particularly in the offseason. He has missed most of the significant work in his first two NFL offseasons with injuries, which has limited his role in the regular season and helped limit his production to 52 receptions for 613 yards and two touchdowns.

Yeldon, the Jaguars’ running back who was listed as questionable on the Friday injury report, was cleared to play an hour and a half before kickoff of the team’s game against the Buffalo Bills. Jones, the team’s starting defensive tackle, was ruled inactive at the same time.

Yeldon did not practice this week, but Jaguars Head Coach Gus Bradley said on Friday that the “arrow” was “up” for Yeldon to play. Bradley also on Friday indicated the arrow was up for Jones.

That’s because Chris Ivory, the 2016 free-agent signee expected to share carries with Yeldon this season, will miss the 2016 regular-season opener against the Green Bay Packers Sunday.

Chris Ivory has a chance to play Sunday

Nike Jaguars Men’s Ugly Sweater

Jaguars running back Chris Ivory, who has missed each of the last two games with a hamstring injury sustained early in a November 27 loss at Buffalo, continued to practice on a limited basis on Wednesday afternoon. Head Coach Gus Bradley said Ivory’s status remains uncertain.

Ivory, who has rushed for 350 yards on 93 carries this season including 221 yards on 53 carries in four games just before the injury, practiced limited twice last week before being a game-day inactive for the Jaguars’ loss to Minnesota this past Sunday.

While five Jaguars players on Friday morning were ruled out for Sunday’s game against Minnesota, running back Chris Ivory was not among those players.

Chris Ivory has a chance to play Sunday.

That was perhaps the biggest news around the Jaguars Friday, with the veteran running back’s removal from the injury report indicating he may play against the Houston Texans.

Center Brandon Linder also was removed from the injury report Friday. He has worked limited Wednesday and Thursday with an ankle injury after missing last Sunday’s loss at Minnesota, and Jaguars Head Coach Gus Bradley on Jacksonville Jaguars jerseys Friday said both Ivory and Linder have a chance to play Sunday.

“It would be really good if we can [get Linder and Ivory back Sunday],’’ Bradley said Friday as the Jaguars (2-11) prepared to play the Texans (7-6) at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, Sunday at 1 p.m.

“Those are two guys who we have to see. We’ll see tomorrow [Saturday] how they’re coming along. It seems like one day they feel pretty good and the next day we’re not sure. If we can get them back, that’d be great.”

Wide receiver Allen Hurns and running back Chris Ivory on Friday were ruled out for Sunday’s game against the defending Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos, the No. 4-ranked defense in the NFL. Both players sustained hamstring injuries in a loss at Buffalo last week and did not practice this week.

Ivory and Linder, both of whom practiced limited this week before being removed from the injury report on Friday, were declared active for the Jaguars an hour and a half before the team’s game against the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, Sunday at 1 p.m.

That was Jaguars middle linebacker Paul Posluszny’s assessment on O-Zone Live on Facebook Thursday, an appearance during which he discussed a variety of Jaguars-related topics.

Posluszny, a 10-year NFL veteran who has been the Jaguars’ starting middle linebacker the past six seasons, discussed among other topics the offseason hiring of Doug Marrone as head coach. He also discussed the team’s decision to retain Todd Wash as defensive coordinator.

“You feel terrible that it happened, because it’s our fault,” Posluszny said.

So it was around EverBank Field Tuesday as Jaguars players gathered for the first time since Head Coach Gus Bradley was dismissed from his duties Sunday.Nike Jaguars #32 Maurice Jones-Drew Teal Green Team Color Women's NFL Game Jersey

Players and coaches on Tuesday began preparing to play the Tennessee Titans at EverBank Field Saturday, and that preparation was a priority. The day’s practice was a priority, too, and players said Interim Head Coach Doug Marrone set the tone for the day and week early.

“For 10 years I’ve played middle linebacker,” Posluszny said. “My entire perspective of how to play football in the NFL, my entire identity, has been that. Now, that’s not the case.”

Posluszny led the team in tackles last season with 133 and also registered eight tackles for loss, but team officials had talked throughout the offseason of needing Jack – widely considered one of the elite talents in the ’16 draft before a knee concern caused him to slip to the second round – to be a three-down player.

Wide receiver Shane Wynn was added to the injury report Friday as questionable with a hamstring injury.

Second-year veteran Jeremiah Poutasi took reps for Reed at left guard during the week, and Jaguars Head Coach Gus Bradley on Friday said third-year veteran Luke Bowankoalso is a possibility at the spot. Bowanko, a starter at center in 2014, spent the first 11 games on the physically unable to perform list with a hip issue.

Allen Hurns is going to be with the Jaguars a while

The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed rookie TE Alex Ellis, first-year RB Bronson Hill and second-year OL Jeremiah Poutasi to the team’s practice squad, the club announced today. The Jaguars have now filled all 10 spots on their practice squad.

Second-year veteran Alex Ellis caught three passes for 11 yards last season, and third-year veteran E.J. Bibbs caught one pass for Cleveland in 2015. Nike Jaguars #88 Allen Hurns Teal Green Team Color Men's Stitched NFL Limited Tank Top Jersey

Ellis, 6-4, 253, was signed by the Titans as an undrafted rookie on May 9, 2016. A former walk-on who earned a scholarship at Tennessee, Ellis appeared in 26 games and totaled 14 receptions for 232 yards and one touchdown. As a senior, Ellis played in all 13 games and made eight catches for 117 yards. Ellis graduated from Tennessee in May 2016 with a degree in biomedical engineering. The son of Shea Ellis and Mackenzie Hay, Ellis was born on Feb. 10, 1993.

“To make it to a second contract and to get the opportunity to come to an organization like this and to have the opportunity to show the NFL what I can do and to continue my career and expand what I can do, it’s truly a blessing and I’m happy.”

Rivera (6-feet-3, 245 pounds) has 146 career receptions for 1,413 yards, catching 10 touchdowns in 61 career games. He has started 15 games in four seasons.

The Jaguars activated third-year offensive lineman Luke Bowanko from the Physically Unable to Perform list and promoted running back Bronson Hill from the practice squad. Bowanko had been on the PUP list with a torn labrum since August 29.

Thomas was placed on injured reserve with a back injury and Odrick was placed there with a shoulder injury.

Defensive end Jared Odrick (shoulder) and tight end Julius Thomas (back) also were ruled out Friday. They were then placed on injured reserve Saturday with the Jacksonville Jaguars jersey cheap team activating offensive lineman Luke Bowanko off the Physically Unable to Perform list and signing running back Bronson Hill off the practice squad.

Allen Hurns is going to be with the Jaguars a while.

That was never very uncertain, but it became really certain Thursday when the third-year veteran wide receiver signed a long-term contract extension with the Jaguars.

Allen Hurns jersey

Allen Hurns is confident he will play Sunday.

Hurns, who spent the week in the concussion protocol after hitting his head on the turf in Kansas City last Sunday, was ruled active an hour and a half before kickoff of the Jaguars’ game against the Houston Texans at EverBank Field.

The Jaguars’ third-year wide receiver took a step toward being able to do that when he was cleared to practice on a limited basis Thursday.

Allen Hurns’ official status may not be known until Sunday.
Whatever the result, the Jaguars’ numbers at wide receiver could be an issue when they play at home for the first time in 20 days.

Hurns, a starting wide receiver, was listed as questionable on the team’s Friday injury report. Hurns has been in the concussion protocol since hitting his head on the turf in a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Kansas City last Sunday.

Marrone, who coached the Jaguars to a 1-1 record in two games after former Head Coach Gus Bradley was dismissed, said his message to players following Sunday’s loss focused on a simple truth.

How they’re going to do that Sunday against one of the NFL’s best defenses is a huge issue – and one that has become more pressing considering the Jaguars’ injury situation.

Second-year veteran Corey Grant is the only running back other than Yeldon/Robinson/Ivory to carry for the Jaguars this season. He rushed one time for two yards Sunday.

“It’s a big moment,” Grant said of the possibility of his first extensive NFL offensive playing time. “At the same time, it’s just football. You’ve been playing it so long so nothing really changes.”

“You can’t make the mistakes that we made today – that have been the mistakes that have shown up before – and expect to go out there and win the game,” Marrone said. “They have to understand that level of focus. They have to understand the pressure that needs to be put on them during the week.

Running back Corey Grant rushed for 122 yards on 18 carries for the Jaguars. That was the first 100-yard game of the second-year veteran’s career.

Luck completed 24 of 40 passes for 321 yards and two touchdowns. E.J. Bibbs is strengthening the exercise.

The Colts, after trailing 17-3 at halftime, cut into the Jaguars’ lead on their first drive of the second half.

That wasn’t just because he got drafted early in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft, ending a long, frustrating emotional slide. The UCLA linebacker liked his destination, too.

Myles Jack didn’t say Tuesday was easy. Not even close.

But it was exciting, and when the Jaguars’ rookie linebacker spoke to the media following his first NFL practice late Tuesday morning, that was his focus. Nike Jaguars #11 Marqise Lee Black Men's Stitched NFL Limited 2016 Salute To Service Jersey

Jack, a linebacker from UCLA and the Jaguars’ second-round selection in the 2016 NFL Draft, said he struggled with the heat in the team’s first practice of 2016 minicamp Tuesday. That was perhaps his biggest takeaway.

“It’s been long, it’s been a little bit embarrassing, but it’s definitely exciting,” Jack said.

Jack, a linebacker widely considered one of the elite talents in the ’16 draft, was selected Friday with the No. 5 selection of Round 2 – the No. 36 selection overall. The Jaguars traded the Nos. 38 and 146 selections in this draft to the Baltimore Ravens for the 36th selection.

Posluszny, an 11-year NFL veteran who said he last played outside linebacker while at Penn State University, joined the Jaguars as an unrestricted free agent from the Buffalo Bills shortly before the 2011 seasons. He started 84 of 96 possible games in six seasons, including 16 in 2011, 2012 and this past season.

Nike Jaguars #11 Marqise Lee Black Men’s Stitched NFL Limited 2016 Salute To Service Jersey

Posluszny long has been considered a Jacksonville Jaguars jersey authentic defensive leader, and his teammate on the linebacker corps – weak-side linebacker Telvin Smith – praised the veteran’s response to the move.

The Bills ranked 19th in the NFL in total offense in 2013 and 26th in 2014. They were 22nd with 21.2 points per game in 2013 and 26th with 21.4 points per game in 2014.

Kyle Orton completed287 of 447 passes for 3,018 yards and 18 touchdowns with 10 interceptions for Buffalo in 2014; E.J. Manuel completed 180 of 306 passes for 1,972 yards and 11 touchdowns with nine interceptions for Buffalo in 2013.

Posluszny typically stayed on the field in base and passing situations last season while Jack at strong-side shared time with veteran Dan Skuta with both Skuta and Jack typically off the field in nickel situations. Posluszny said he expects the major change to involve playing closer to the line of scrimmage as opposed to being what he called an “off-the-ball” linebacker.

“Sam [strong-side linebacker] will be on the ball more – lining up on a tight end, which I’ve never done before,” Posluszny said. “That will be a challenge.”

Posluszny said the plan for next season is to have the best two linebackers stay on in the field in nickel situations.

Jaguar’s backup quarterback Henry

jaguars salute to service hoodie

That includes quarterback Chad Henne, with Head Coach Gus Bradley saying Thursday the second-team – including rookie quarterback Blake Bortles – could play a little longer after that in the Jaguars’ preseason opener.

Beyond that, Bradley said he wasn’t sure about specific playing time when the Jaguars play host to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Friday at 7:30 p.m.

He said he does know Bortles will not get repetitions with the first team. The No. 3 overall selection in the 2014 NFL Draft, Bortles has worked with the second team throughout training camp.

It seems you are confused and possibly frustrated because of all the questions about Chad Henne and I think I know why. I believe you view the backup quarterback in the traditional sense … a solid and dependable player who can come in for short stints when necessary due to an injury to the starter. Henne is indeed a good option in this view because he has experience and he brings other good qualities to the table. I believe fans view the backup quarterback differently. We aren’t as worried about an injury to Bortles as much as we are worried about total implosion that gets him benched. If we start 0-6 or 1-5 and Bortles continues to be inaccurate and turns the ball over at a high rate we could certainly see him benched before midseason. If that is the case, we want someone who maybe, just maybe, could be the guy to take his place as the starter long-term. I know that’s a tall order, but we don’t want 10-plus games of Henne followed by the hunt for the next starter. We’re done with rebuilds. I know that guy may not exist without using the No. 4 pick, but we’re fans. We want what we want, regardless of the feasibility.

Henne, the Jaguars’ backup quarterback the last two seasons and a starter at times during his five seasons with the team, re-signed a contract to remain with the team Wednesday.

The Jaguars had a Wednesday deadline to exercise a one-year option to retain Henne. The sides instead reached a deal for Henne to re-sign.Women's Nike Jacksonville Jaguars Logo NFL T-Shirt Light Green

“With nine years of NFL experience, Chad has an abundance of knowledge in professional football,” Jaguars Head Coach Doug Marrone said in a statement. “Chad provides leadership to our offensive meeting room.”

Henne (6-feet-3, 222 pounds), originally a second-round selection by the Miami Dolphins in the 2008 NFL Draft, joined the Jaguars as an unrestricted free agent in 2012. He has started 22 games for the Jaguars, starting the first three games in 2014 before Blake Bortles took over as the starter.

Henne has been the backup to Bortles in every game since Week 4 of 2014, and has been credited by coaches and Bortles as a positive influence, and strong locker-room and meeting-room presence, for the younger quarterback.

Henne, who has played in 65 career games with 53 starts, completed 1,159 of 1,954 career passes for 12,931 yards, 58 touchdowns and 63 interceptions. He has 5,817 passing yards, 513 completions and 27 touchdown passes with the Jaguars.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have re-signed sixth-year WR Arrelious Benn, the club announced today. jacksonville jaguars jersey cheap

“Through the highs and lows of this league, I have never lost sight of my vision and am honored to be back with the Jaguars,” said Benn. “This is a special day for my family and me and I’m grateful for the organization for giving me another opportunity to play the game that I love. This is an important offseason for our team and specifically the wide receivers, so now the focus turns to doing everything that we can to put ourselves in position to win this season.”

Benn, 6-2, 228, has appeared in 52 career games with 25 starts since originally being drafted by Tampa Bay in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft. After being traded to Philadelphia on Mach 15, 2013, Benn eventually signed with Jacksonville as a free agent on Jan. 5, 2015. Benn spent the 2015 season on injured reserve, but returned in 2016 to appear in 15 games.

Rookie Brandon Allen, inactive as the third-team quarterback in every game this season, was the only healthy player among the Jaguars’ seven game-day inactives for their regular-season home finale against the Tennessee Titans at EverBank Field Saturday.

The second-year running back gets the nod here despite his early fumble. Yeldon’s 23-yard reverse-field run gave the unit a second-quarter spark and led to the Jaguars’ lone scoring drive of the first half. Yeldon also had a nice reception for a would-be first down in the first quarter but replays showed him out of bounds. Quarterback Brandon Allen and defensive end Tyrone Holmes, the Jaguars’ two sixth-round selections in the 2016 NFL Draft, both signed their rookie contracts with the team on Thursday as rookies first gathered for the team’s rookie minicamp.

The two-day rookie minicamp will be held at EverBank Field Friday and Saturday. The team’s seven draft selections arrived at EverBank Thursday.

Don’t let Henne’s presence add to your confusion. He won’t provide competition for Bortles, and the Jaguars didn’t re-sign him thinking he will push for a starting role. He will be a reserve if he makes the team. And his re-signing doesn’t mean the Jaguars are done addressing quarterback this offseason. There remains the possibility of drafting or signing a free agent to provide some level of competition for Bortles. I have said since the offseason began that I believe Bortles will start next season because finding a quarterback clearly better than Bortles in this offseason’s market will be difficult. Either way, Henne’s presence on the roster has no bearing on the situation.Nike Jaguars #56 Dante Fowler Jr Black Men's Stitched NFL Limited 2016 Salute To Service Jersey

My thoughts on Brandon Allen have been gleaned from organized team activities, training camp and preseason because we don’t see practice during the regular season. He has arm talent and throws a good-looking ball. He at times looked better in terms of spiral and velocity than Bortles; but spiral and velocity aren’t the NFL end-all. He appears to have a lot of positives, and I know the team very much likes his potential. That does not mean he yet knows fundamentals and NFL basics – or that he is ready in terms of grasp of the offense – well enough to start in the NFL.

Brandon Allen, a quarterback from the University of Arkansas, on Saturday became the sixth player selected by the Jaguars in the 2016 NFL Draft. He was the No. 201 selection of the draft, the 26th selection of the sixth round.

Allen (6-feet-1, 217 pounds), a three-year starter for the Razorbacks, completed 583 of 1,016 passes for 7,463 yards and 64 touchdowns with 26 interceptions in four seasons. He completed 244 of 370 passes for 3,440 yards and 30 touchdowns with eight interceptions as a senior.

Allen Robinson doesn’t consider himself a big complainer

Jacksonville Jaguars jersey authentic

Robinson, a 2015 Pro Bowl selection, caught three passes for 31 yards Sunday, but the primary topic when he was speaking to the media afterward was an incomplete pass that Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles threw to Robinson in the fourth quarter.

Allen Robinson is the big dog in the Jaguars kennel, but Hurns is a pit bull that nobody sees coming until it is too late. Hurns was solid as a rookie, racking up a 51/677/6 line, but broke out as a sophomore with his 64/1,034/10 line. This year has started slow for Hurns, managing just one touchdown through 4 games, but he has been able to grab a respectable 15 passes for 226 yards.

It was disappointing to see Allen Robinson jersey speak disparagingly about the home crowd. I have owned season tickets for the last 15 years – since I could afford them – to the tune of several thousand dollars annually. We have put up with season after season of losing. If they win some games, I bet the crowd doesn’t boo as much. Let him know I said don’t worry about the boos and just go cash his game check. Too bad they can’t dock his pay for those two drops … Oh, well.

Allen Robinson doesn’t consider himself a big complainer.

When it comes to officiating, the Jaguars’ third-year receiver said it never has been his way to complain or question calls. That made Sunday unusual.

“I’ve never been this frustrated playing football in my life,” Robinson said.

Robinson was defended by Broncos quarterback Aqib Talib on the 4th-and-four play. Contact was made between the two, and after the ball caromed away from Robinson and Talib, Robinson was penalized 15 yards for removing his helmet while complaining about the non-interference call.

And without question, Jaguars wide receiver Allen Robinson said being able to work during Jaguars 2016 organized team activities is a good thing.

“It’s always more fun being out there,” Robinson said Tuesday after Day Four of Jaguars 2016 OTAs at the Florida Blue Health and Wellness Practice Fields.

Robinson, who was limited early in the first week of 2016 OTAs last week, returned to close to full speed on Tuesday’s first day of Week 2 of OTAs. He spoke to the media afterward, and said yes, these workouts are important.

Telvin Smith was talking about speed, and as one of the Jaguars’ fastest defensive players, he was asked if he saw a noticeable difference in that area from last season.

One is while he has been good in two NFL seasons, he can still improve. Another is his first two years in the NFL have gone fast. Really, really fast.Nike Jacksonville Jaguars Big & Tall Critical Victory NFL T-Shirt Yellow

“It’s crazy, how fast time goes by,” the Jaguars’ starting weak-side linebacker said during an appearance on Jaguars.com LIVE Wednesday with John Oehser and J.P. Shadrick.

If the Jaguars think there’s an elite talent at cornerback or safety in the draft, and that it’s more likely to be a hit than any other players available at No. 4, then I wouldn’t mind the pick at all. Defenses are playing in nickel more and more, and having that much talent there could really be something. Telvin Smith, Then we just load up on waves of defensive linemen.

I’m warming to the idea of the Jaguars possibly selecting a defensive back at No. 4, but it’s a lukewarm warming at best – and it’s still hard to project a safety there. On the one hand it would be a positive thing because a selection of a player such as Jamal Adams or Malik Hooker would mean the Jaguars are absolutely selecting the player they think is the best player. The presence of safeties Barry Church and Tashaun Gipson already on the roster would mean Adams/Hooker aren’t need selections. Still, it’s just hard to predict that considering you’re usually not rotating safeties. An elite corner … well, considering teams indeed are in nickel defenses these days so much more than they are in base defenses … yeah, it certainly is reaching the point in the NFL that it’s hard to have too much talent at that position.
