That includes quarterback Chad Henne, with Head Coach Gus Bradley saying Thursday the second-team – including rookie quarterback Blake Bortles – could play a little longer after that in the Jaguars’ preseason opener.
Beyond that, Bradley said he wasn’t sure about specific playing time when the Jaguars play host to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Friday at 7:30 p.m.
He said he does know Bortles will not get repetitions with the first team. The No. 3 overall selection in the 2014 NFL Draft, Bortles has worked with the second team throughout training camp.
It seems you are confused and possibly frustrated because of all the questions about Chad Henne and I think I know why. I believe you view the backup quarterback in the traditional sense … a solid and dependable player who can come in for short stints when necessary due to an injury to the starter. Henne is indeed a good option in this view because he has experience and he brings other good qualities to the table. I believe fans view the backup quarterback differently. We aren’t as worried about an injury to Bortles as much as we are worried about total implosion that gets him benched. If we start 0-6 or 1-5 and Bortles continues to be inaccurate and turns the ball over at a high rate we could certainly see him benched before midseason. If that is the case, we want someone who maybe, just maybe, could be the guy to take his place as the starter long-term. I know that’s a tall order, but we don’t want 10-plus games of Henne followed by the hunt for the next starter. We’re done with rebuilds. I know that guy may not exist without using the No. 4 pick, but we’re fans. We want what we want, regardless of the feasibility.

Henne, the Jaguars’ backup quarterback the last two seasons and a starter at times during his five seasons with the team, re-signed a contract to remain with the team Wednesday.
“With nine years of NFL experience, Chad has an abundance of knowledge in professional football,” Jaguars Head Coach Doug Marrone said in a statement. “Chad provides leadership to our offensive meeting room.”
Henne (6-feet-3, 222 pounds), originally a second-round selection by the Miami Dolphins in the 2008 NFL Draft, joined the Jaguars as an unrestricted free agent in 2012. He has started 22 games for the Jaguars, starting the first three games in 2014 before Blake Bortles took over as the starter.
Henne has been the backup to Bortles in every game since Week 4 of 2014, and has been credited by coaches and Bortles as a positive influence, and strong locker-room and meeting-room presence, for the younger quarterback.

Henne, who has played in 65 career games with 53 starts, completed 1,159 of 1,954 career passes for 12,931 yards, 58 touchdowns and 63 interceptions. He has 5,817 passing yards, 513 completions and 27 touchdown passes with the Jaguars.

“Through the highs and lows of this league, I have never lost sight of my vision and am honored to be back with the Jaguars,” said Benn. “This is a special day for my family and me and I’m grateful for the organization for giving me another opportunity to play the game that I love. This is an important offseason for our team and specifically the wide receivers, so now the focus turns to doing everything that we can to put ourselves in position to win this season.”
Benn, 6-2, 228, has appeared in 52 career games with 25 starts since originally being drafted by Tampa Bay in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft. After being traded to Philadelphia on Mach 15, 2013, Benn eventually signed with Jacksonville as a free agent on Jan. 5, 2015. Benn spent the 2015 season on injured reserve, but returned in 2016 to appear in 15 games.
